In the heart of New Jersey, a young veteran named Kelly, who once proudly served in the Army alongside her husband, faced an unexpected and life-altering challenge. Suddenly, she found herself grappling with Periodic Paralysis, a debilitating condition that shares similarities with ALS. In the blink of an eye, Kelly's world turned upside down as she transitioned from being an active individual to relying on a wheelchair for mobility.

The Steep Hill Dilemma:
Kelly's home, perched atop a steep hill, presented an additional obstacle. Two sets of dilapidated and perilous stairs, once navigable, became insurmountable barriers for Kelly in her wheelchair. Unfortunately, installing a safe ADA ramp proved unfeasible due to the severe slope of the terrain.

A Collaborative Effort:
Recognizing the urgent need to improve Kelly's living situation, Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon of NJ stepped forward with immense generosity. Their donation of $10,000 became a pivotal catalyst for the project, providing hope and a glimpse of possibility.
Transformation and Independence:
With unwavering determination, a comprehensive reconstruction plan took shape. The stairs were meticulously redesigned and fortified, ensuring stability and safety for Kelly's daily use. Additionally, an outdoor chairlift was installed, granting Kelly the freedom to navigate the challenging landscape independently.
Gratitude and Impact:
The total cost of the project amounted to approximately $35,000, an endeavor made possible by the generosity and support of compassionate donors like yourself.
"It’s just so emotional knowing that I will be able to access my front yard again.  Knowing that I will be able to get Baron off to school again. Just a little bit of normalcy back and a lot bit of independence I just am so overwhelmed with gratitude right now"  -Kelly
Kelly's story stands as a testament to the resilience of our veterans and the profound impact that collective efforts can have on their lives. A very very special thank you to our project manager, Dave Rivkin, our contractors: TNT Renovation and Excavation and Back Home Safely.
