[WOODLYNE, NJ] Billy Williams is a Vietnam-era Army veteran from New Jersey who dedicated over 22 years to serving our country. Born on May 18, 1949, in Andalusia, Alabama, Billy graduated high school in 1967 and attended Alabama State College for two years before entering the U.S. Army in 1969. After completing basic training in Bennington, he attended Fort Gordon, where he became a military police officer. Billy was honorably discharged from active duty in May 1972 and went on to serve in the Pennsylvania National Guard until his honorable discharge in 1999.
Despite his long career and dedication to service, years of health challenges—including open-heart surgery, knee replacement, back surgery, carpal tunnel surgery, and arthritis—have made it impossible for him to safely navigate the stairs in his home.
Homes for Veterans stepped in to install a stair lift and adjust the height of the bannister, allowing Billy to move safely between floors and remain in the home he loves. This project restores his independence, safety, and dignity. Billy shared, "I am so grateful to Homes for Veterans for helping me regain independence in my home. Their kindness and support mean the world to me."
This project is part of our ongoing mission to ensure veterans can live safely and with dignity. Your support makes projects like Billy’s possible. Visit www.HomesforVeterans.us to donate and help veterans live independently.
