Veteran Empowerment Day in Partnership with ICL — Serving Those Who Served

Homes for Veterans was honored to join forces with ICL at 50 Nevins in Brooklyn for Veteran Empowerment Day, a powerful and uplifting day of service, connection, and support for New York City’s veteran community.
With over 1,200 veterans experiencing homelessness in NYC on any given night, showing up with real, tangible support is not just important—it’s urgent. We were proud to donate thousands of essential items valued at over $1,000, including soap, toothpaste, shoes, shorts, socks, and other much-needed basics. More importantly, we spent the day sharing meals, listening to stories, and letting these men and women know they are not forgotten.
A heartfelt thank you to Calvin Robinson and Nina Owens from ICL for organizing such a meaningful event, and to Black Veterans for Social Justice and Eseni Ellington for helping to create a space filled with warmth, dignity, and community.
We also want to recognize Karen Rule, LCSW, and Inspire Wellness Psychology, whose generosity went above and beyond. Karen donated boxes of clothing and socks and raised funds to support this cause—making a direct and lasting impact on the lives of those we served that day.
Supporting our veterans is not a one-time gesture. It is a lifelong commitment, and we are proud to be part of this ongoing effort. Days like this remind us why we do what we do and just how powerful we can be when we come together for those who’ve served.
