John Carlson, a veteran who served his country with pride, found himself facing a challenge far too common among those who have worn the uniform, needing help, but waiting too long to receive it.
Living with mobility limitations, John’s daily routine had become increasingly dangerous, especially in his bathroom. Without proper support, simple movements like stepping in and out of the shower or maintaining balance on wet surfaces posed a serious risk. The fear of falling was constant and unfortunately, that fear became reality.
After experiencing a fall in his home, it became clear that something as simple as added support could make a life-changing difference. While assistance through the VA was an option, the process and timeline did not align with the urgency of his situation.
That’s where Homes for Veterans stepped in.
Project Scope:
Rather than allowing John to wait, Homes for Veterans acted quickly to provide a simple yet critical solution:
Installation of secure grab bars in his shower
Increased stability and support in the bathroom
Immediate reduction in fall risk
While this may seem like a small modification, for John, it is life-changing.
This project highlights a reality many veterans face, falling through the cracks of a system that can’t always respond quickly enough. In moments like these, timely action matters.
By stepping in without delay, we were able to provide John with immediate safety, restoring confidence in his daily routine and helping prevent further injury.
Because sometimes, it’s not about a large renovation, it’s about being there at the right time, when it matters most.
