For Navy veteran Guy Saladino, life had become a daily battle. Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Guy has been unable to walk and, for over five years, couldn’t even shower properly in his own home. His inaccessible bathroom, a critical part of his daily routine, became a source of frustration and limitation. But that all changed, thanks to a remarkable community effort that gave Guy back his independence and dignity.

A Community That Stepped Up: The Funding Behind the Transformation

This life-changing renovation was made possible by the incredible generosity of our community. Team Freedom, the Friends of Spring Lake 5, and the Manasquan Elks Lodge came together to raise $13,720 in total, more than half the cost of the $23,000 project!

A Renovation That Changed Everything

For over five years, Guy was unable to shower safely or navigate his bathroom with ease. Now, thanks to these incredible donations, Guy’s bathroom is fully accessible, giving him back the independence he so desperately needed.

The renovation included:

  • Wider doorways for seamless wheelchair access

  • Removal of a wall between the laundry room and bathroom to create an open space

  • Installation of a zero-threshold wheelchair-accessible shower

  • A new ADA-compliant toilet with essential grab bars

  • A mirror placed at wheelchair height

  • New wall and shower tiles for enhanced style and safety

  • A fresh paint job, brightening up the entire room

Seeing his new bathroom for the first time brought Guy to tears. After years of struggling, he could finally enjoy something most people take for granted—being able to shower safely. The emotional impact was felt by everyone involved in this renovation, as Guy expressed his gratitude for the life-changing difference it has made.

♥ Special Thanks to Our Partners and Community

This incredible project wouldn’t have been possible without the contributions of local contractors and donors. Triple A Contractors, led by Anthony, provided the hands-on labor, alongside architect Tom Gaetano, electrician John Mangan, and plumber Kevin Burns.

We also extend a heartfelt thank-you to Tile Redi for donating the zero-threshold shower pan that made Guy’s dream of accessibility a reality.

Gratitude for All Who Made This Possible

The transformation of Guy's bathroom was made possible by a community that cares deeply about its veterans. Team Freedom, Friends of Spring Lake 5, Tito’s Vodka, and everyone who contributed to this project have given Guy back more than just a bathroom—they’ve restored his freedom and dignity.
