Elias Madrid's Story
Elias Madrid served our country with bravery from 1975 to 1988, with deployments in Korea, Fort Hood, Fort Bliss, and Germany. However, his service came at a significant cost. An accident during his military service left him with severe nerve damage, and he endured frequent blackouts while stationed in Korea. Tragically, by the end of his military career, diabetes had taken away his sight, leaving him blind.
Recently, Elias faced yet another devastating blow: a stroke that has confined him to a wheelchair. This new reality has made it difficult for him to perform basic tasks that many of us take for granted—balancing, showering, and moving around his own home. With weakened legs, he is entirely dependent on his wife and son for even the simplest of needs.
Elias’s struggles are further compounded by depression, making the daily battle of accessing the bathroom nearly insurmountable. There are days when he goes 5 to 7 days without a shower because the effort required is just too overwhelming.
A New Beginning with ExpoHome
With the generous support of Expo Home Improvement and Jacuzzi Bath Remodel, we are determined to provide Elias with a sense of dignity and independence that he desperately needs. Our partnership will focus on renovating Elias's bathroom, transforming it into an accessible space that accommodates his unique needs.
Accessible Shower: We’ll install a zero-threshold shower that allows Elias to bathe safely and independently.
Grab Bars: Essential support features will be added throughout the bathroom to ensure stability.
Customized Fixtures: We’ll work closely with ExpoHome to ensure that all fixtures are user-friendly and accessible, giving Elias the ability to manage his personal care with ease.
