We are thrilled to share a special moment of recognition and gratitude that aired on Good Day New York in honor of Memorial Day. Homes for Veterans was featured in a heartfelt segment that highlighted not only our mission, but also the incredible legacy of my father, whose vision and passion continues to guide everything we do.
A huge thank you to Tashanea Whitlow for telling our story with such sincerity, and for shining a spotlight on one of our most impactful recent projects—helping Nick, a veteran of both the Army and Navy, who has been courageously battling multiple sclerosis.
For Nick, something as simple as stepping in and out of his home became a daily obstacle. His porch had become unsafe, and without the right modifications, his independence and well-being were at serious risk.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we raised $22,500 for the project. That amount was matched by a $22,500 grant from the Family Service Society of Yonkers (FSSY)—bringing the total to $45,000. Every single dollar was put directly into rebuilding Nick’s porch to make it safe, accessible, and worthy of the man who has served his country with strength and pride.
This project was powered by an incredible team of supporters and partners who came together to make it happen:
Simpson Strong-Tie – David Grissom and Demos Kazamias
Maxxima – Maxx Tissenbaum and Lauren O'Toole
Domfer Construction LLC – Domingos and his team
Mt. Vernon Veteran Services – Andrea Molina
The Mt. Vernon Building Department – Frank D’Ambrosio and Lysanne S.
The Family Service Society of Yonkers – Ronald Tavarez
Your dedication and collaboration made this possible.
We are putting the final touches on the porch and will be releasing a new video soon featuring an interview with Nick, along with a full before-and-after look at the transformation.
Stay tuned for the full reveal. And from the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who made this project possible. You are changing lives.
