Every veteran deserves a home that feels safe, functional, and comforting. For James Harrison and his family, that sense of peace felt out of reach—until now.
James is a veteran living with severe PTSD. For years, he and his family coped with a kitchen that was falling apart. Broken cabinets, worn-out appliances, and a layout that made daily life harder than it needed to be. The condition of the space only added to the emotional weight James was already carrying, becoming a daily reminder of the challenges he faced.
That all changed thanks to an incredible partnership between Homes for Veterans, Habitat for Humanity Maryland, and Team Depot in Hyattsville. Together, we gave James a kitchen that is not only beautiful and functional, but also a source of comfort and pride.
This transformation would not have been possible without the generosity of The Home Depot, who donated all of the materials and appliances for the renovation. Their support made it possible to turn a space filled with frustration into one filled with hope.
The new kitchen is more than just upgraded counters and cabinets. It is a symbol of dignity restored, stress lifted, and a new chapter beginning for James and his family.
