July 31st, 2025 - A SPECIAL COOK-OUT WITH WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT & ICL FOR BORDEN AVE HOMELESS VETERANS IN HONOR OF INDEPENDENCE DAY

Homes for Veterans was proud to partner with the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) and the Institute for Community Living (ICL) for a meaningful summer cookout dedicated to supporting veterans from the Borden Avenue Veterans Residence in Long Island City, the only veterans-only homeless shelter in all of New York City.

This event was not just about providing a meal. It was about creating connection, dignity, and community for veterans who are often overlooked and reminding them that they are supported, appreciated, and never forgotten.

Together, we:

  • Distributed 96 summer essential care kits generously donated by Wounded Warrior Project

  • Served over 100 sandwiches, snacks, and beverages provided by Homes for Veterans

  • Created a welcoming atmosphere with music from a local DJ and community fellowship

  • Welcomed Warrior Antoinette Wallace as keynote speaker, who shared a powerful and inspiring story of resilience, strength, and service

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible partners who helped make this event possible.

A special thank you to Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) for their continued dedication to supporting veterans and for generously donating the summer essential care kits distributed during the event. Through their programs focused on mental health, physical wellness, career counseling, and long-term support, WWP continues to make a lasting impact in the lives of warriors and their families.

We are also deeply grateful to the Institute for Community Living (ICL), including Calvin Robinson and Nina Owens, for opening their doors and continuing to provide critical housing and support services to veterans in need. The Borden Avenue Veterans Residence serves nearly 300 homeless veterans and remains an essential resource within New York City.

Events like these are only possible through collaboration, compassion, and a shared commitment to serving those who have sacrificed so much for our country. We are honored to stand alongside organizations that continue to create meaningful change in the veteran community.
