John Parnell proudly served our country in the United States Army during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Years of service, along with severe neck and back injuries, chronic pain, and unstable knees, made something as simple as taking a shower dangerous. After experiencing multiple falls, John needed a bathroom that worked for him and allowed him to safely maintain his independence.
Homes for Veterans stepped in to make that happen.
We removed John’s small, cramped stall shower and transformed that space into additional storage. A brand-new walk-in shower, twice the size of his previous one, was built with strategically placed grab bars and a handheld showerhead to give John the safety and accessibility he needed.
For John, this project was about so much more than a new shower. It was about being able to safely take care of himself in his own home without the constant fear of falling.
Our veterans served and sacrificed for us. Making sure their homes are safe, accessible, and built around their needs is one small way we can serve them in return.
